Ok, it's time we have a little talk about a band I like to call The Elmses. Now, keep in mind they're not actually called The Elmses. Their real name is The Elms. Anyway, moving on.
"Truth, Soul, Rock & Roll" by The Elms.
TSRR as it will be called from here on is a CD that I�ve been meaning to pick up since it came out last year sometime. I finally grabbed it a few weeks ago on sale at Rainbow. I�m very glad I did. It seems like every time I listen to it, I like this CD more. TSRR is the kind of CD you listen to in your car and nod your head with while you use your hands to drum on things. It starts out with �Speaking In Tongues� (Track #1. duh.), which is also their first single. Good choice in my opinion, as it�s one of the catchiest songs on the album, and it�s a good song to show The Elms like to do. It�s kind of modern classic rock if you will. �You Saved Me� (#2) is an anthem that could be interpreted about how God is with us on the �Road� of life (The chorus says �I�m not alone on this road, You saved me�), but it�s actually pretty literal. The Elms were in some sort of accident in their van, and they amazingly came out alive, thanks to The Lord. �All The While Having Fun� (#3) is one of my favorites with a rad riff that goes along with a chorus of �Not in rock & roll did I find my soul� which at least for myself is a good thing to keep in mind. Another favorite is �The First Day� (#5), which is has some nice strings and is all about not being ruled by the past, and making every day the first day. The rest of the album sticks with the tried and true catchy rock songs with vintage distortion (which I love,) pretty bridges, big solos, and lyrics that you can�t help but sing along with. Except for the Acoustic driven �Go Toward The Glow� (# 9), and my personal favorite �Smile At Life Again� (#12) that beautifully closes the album. In closing, I have no complaints with TSRR, there aren�t any tracks I skip when I listen to it. If I don�t make myself sick of it by summer time, it could very well be my CD of summer. If you like feel good rock that puts a smile on your face, do yourself a favor and get TSRR. I can�t get enough of this album. 10/10.
By the way, April Fool's Day sucks bad. Don't worry though, you can belive everything you read here.

I just wrote a song. In itself that may not be the most amazing thing (it still is for me), but I happened to do it in one hour! Considering it usually takes me a month or two to write one song, that's pretty freaking good. It's called "Long Walk To Your House", and it's self-deprecating humor at it's best. I started writing a bunch of stuff here, then I hit backspace and my computer was all like "What? You want to delete that typo? Too bad, I'm going to take you back a page instead." Now I get to start over.
"Love" by The Juliana Theory:
If there's one thing you can't say about The Juliana Theory, it's that all their cds sound the same. Well... I guess it's physically possible for you to say that, but if you did everyone would laugh at you and call you a stupid head. Some bands change to keep up with what�s cool, and some bands mature and get better. The latter is obviously the case with �Love�. If I were to put this cd into some sort of filing system, I�d put it in a folder labeled �Rock Music That Makes You Feel Tough Just By Listening To It�. The track list on this cd is near perfect, with every song flowing nicely into the next. The only song that throws it off is �Into The Dark� (Track 12) which was from their last cd, and has been re-made for this one. I don�t know, it just doesn�t go with the rest of the tracks on this cd, al though it is much better than it was before. The cd starts off with �Bring It Low� which kicks you in the face with a big tough riff and lets you know what you�re in for with the rest of the disc. Brett Detar has gotten so much better at singing and songwriting it�s almost absurd. His vocal range is freaking amazing. TJT isn�t really a �Christian band�, but Detar (Who writes all the songs) is a Christian. The interesting thing is, is that even though TJT is now on a major label (Epic), it seems like there�s more of a �Christian message� than their other cd�s when they were on Tooth & Nail. A few of these songs hit home with me, like �Do You Believe Me� (#2), �Shell Of A Man� (#3) and �In Conversation� (#11) to name a few. They�ve also got a new drummer, who rulez the drums with an iron fist. Listen to �Congratulations� (#5) if you want to know what I�m talking about. In fact, listen to it anyway because it�s one of the toughest rock songs ever, and one of my favorite tracks on the disc. There are a few tracks I skip though. Like �DTM� (#9) because it feels kinda generic, and doesn�t seem quite like TJT, and following that �Trance� (#10) which just kinda rubs me the wrong way I guess. But overall, �Love� is a great cd and you should all buy if you don�t have it already. Especially since it�s only like 9 bucks at Target.
Well, there you go. A really really really long review. Next time I'll review "Truth, Soul and Rock & Roll" by The Elmses because Adam told me to. I hate the fact that cars are so expensive. I could buy a car... or a big pile of video games or some guitars. But nooooo, not everything in the world is within walking distance! Stupid world. Stupid cars. Stupid money.

I was lying in bed this morning (30 minutes ago) thinking thoughts, and all of a sudden WHAM! and it gets darker. I've been wondering what that was since I got up (30 minutes ago), and I think someone must've tried to shoot out the sun. Fortunatly they failed.
Highschool spring break sucks.
Remember when I said I'd talk about more cds and stuff? I don't feel like it right now. I think I'm just going to give up setting goals, because I never feel like doing them. I guess I'd rather just stare at nothing on the computer for hours on end than do anything useful.

Hi my name it MATT!
That's what I always say to Lenny, whom some know as Matt. Don't ask me why, it's something I like to do, it's something I find nice.
I've been buying cd's like a freaking maniac. All of them good. I think I'll start talking about them on here so that I actually have something to post about once in awhile. Today I will be speaking of the new Relient K cd that came out yesterday. I do this because I just listened to it and it's quite fresh in my mind. Anyway, here it is.
Relient K "Two Lefts Don't Make A Right... But Three Do."
Unless you can't read, you can tell that they're still funny. Anyway, like I said before, you could listen to their whole cd on their site before it came out. That's kind of a double edged sword, because you can listen, and get excited for the cd, but then the cd comes and there's nothing new. Oh well, it's good either way. They're definetly getting better at playing music. There's less straight fast punk songs (only one or two that I can think of off hand), and a bit more rock. There's pretty obvious Jimmy Eat World influences on the cd, which is pretty sweet. Trademark (Track #7) starts out like it could be Bleed American 2. Falling Out (#3) also reminds me of Jimmy for no reason. Matt Thiessen seems to have tried a couple new singing tecniques on I Am Understood (#10) and From End To End (#14), which is pretty cool. If you don't know, I'm not the biggest fan of punk, but even the few mostly punk songs on here I dont mind. Mainly because Matt T. is such a witty song writer, and they actually have lots of talent unlike alot of punk bands. It also has the funniest secret song I've heard in a while. When they do have a serious song (which it seems like they have a few more than usual on this one), it shows how good they really are when the want to be. My favorite song right now is probably I Am Understood. That's another thing, Relient K usually has songs that are just what I need to hear at that moment in my life. Anyway, Two Lefts Don't Make A Right... But Three Do. is a way better cd than I expected, and you should buy it (It's only $14 at Rainbow) and laugh and enjoy it.
There you go call it a "review" if you want, I don't care. I'll probably talk about "Love" by The Juliana Theory next time. Maybe you've heard of it. I also may or may not post more song titles and some serious tidbit. So stay tuned!

No more title tracks
This is my plea to bands everywhere, don't ever record another title track. Ever. I'm serious. There's a very heavy burden that title tracks have to carry around with them. Simply because they're title tracks, you expect it to be at least one of the best songs on the cd. Unfortunatly, this is rarely the case, sometimes they even turn out to be the WORST track off the cd! What could be more disapointing than that? This has been on my mind for sometime now, but the new Switchfoot cd made me go into action. So all bands, please, do us a favor and never make a title track again. Thank you. More news at eleven.

I always tell myself "Pistol, you should really update your blog on a weekly basis." I'm obviously doing that very well. Psych! Hee hee, remember psych? What a good time!
Let's talk about video games for a moment shall we? Ok, great! I purchased NHL Hitz 2003 recently from Rock 30, and boy is it a good time! That's... All I can really think of to say. It's fun.
I also picked up Kessen 2 and Devil May Cry 2 the other day. People in general don't seem to like DMC2 very much. I haven't played through the whole thing yet, but I have no major qualms with it. I'll let you know if I finish it and have major qualms by then. Kessen 2 is more fun than I remember, aside from the freaking level I'm stuck on.
Music news... You can go to Relient K's site to enjoy all of their new cd, which I might add is pretty darn sweet.
Tuesday will be the start of the relentless assault of great cds coming out for the next two months. It all starts with "Love" by The Juliana Theory. Pick it up at Target for 6 (!) bucks,
Speaking of Target I'll officially be done there on Feb. 10th. I'll then move on to become a inventory control specialist at Rock 30 Games.
Ok, I'm done now. I liked Crystal Pepsi.

Fine China "You Make Me Hate Music"
That would be my pick for cd of the year. Runner up is:
Coldplay "A Rush Of Blood To The Head" & 238 "You Should Be Living"
That's right, a tie. Anyway, more about Fine China. "You Make Me Hate Music" was almost the only cd I listened to all summer, and I never got sick of it. Upon further thought, I really think it's my favorite cd... EVAR!!!11 Sorry. Well, that's all you're going to get for now, I wouldn't want to steal any thunder from that amazing announcement. Bye.

Ahh, the new year... The time when everyone makes silly unrealistic goals that they know they'll screw up by Febuary. You won't find me doing such things, no sir. Instead I'm going to set a more realistic goal. That goal is to see The Two Towers (Yes, it's TWO, not TWIN) again. This way, when everyone is moaning about how they didn't do their resolution, I can laugh and enjoy my supremacy.
Speaking of The Two Towers (I am the segue king!), I've enjoyed it 3 times since it came out, and it of course rules. If you're reading this right now you owe it to yourself to go and see it as soon as you can. I don't care if you've seen it already, go anyway. It would be stupid not to. Unless you haven't seen the first one yet, in which case you absolutely should NOT see Two Towers yet. I forbid it.
Actually, I do have a resolution other than seeing the movie, but it's not because it's a new year, it's more of a good thing to do in general. If you've ever talked to me, you probably know that I'm not a big fan of multiple standards. Meaning that I whine about it all the time. Anyway, I complain about it all the time, and I'm sure I'm guilty of it just as much as the next guy (whoever that is). So what I'm getting at here is, there's no reason I should treat someone differently because of how they treat me, is there? Didn't think so. So if you catch me doing so, slap me around or something. Seriously. I won't hesitate to do the same to you. Well, maybe I won't slap you, but a stern talking to isn't out of the question.
Oh, by the way, I made a "hall" on Christmas. I'll give you the low-down another time. Maybe. I will be back with my choice for compact disc of the year in a few weeks though.

Music is good.
The other day I spent some quality time checking out some Tooth & Nail bands the other day, let me give you the low down.
Me Without You
The song I downloaded started out promising, then turned into generic hardcore. Too bad.
Mae
I didn't really know what to expect when I downloaded the (unfortunatly) only song they had up, but let me tell you, it freaking rules.Their cd "Destination: Beautiful" Comes out febuary 25th, and will be one of the many, many compact discs I'll be buying that come out in Feb. and March. The song is very pretty, it kinda has an airy sound to it, which is something I enjoy alot.
Poor Old Lu
They've been around awhile, but I've never really listened to them. It's not too bad I must say, but I haven't made up my mind about his voice. It's definetly rock though.
Slow Coming Day
They're sort of emo rock I guess. Not bad by any means, they just didn't stick out to me much.
Watashi Wa
The only song they have up is a rough mix of a song right now, but it's not bad. It's sorta poppy, and it also has a touch of 80's. Not punk like I expected. I kinda like it.
Bon Voyage
Now wait, before you stop and say "Pistol! That's a girl pop band! What were you thinking?!?", let me say two words: Jason Martin. If you didn't know (which I didn't until I read a review on Decapolis), Bon Voyage is: Jason Martin, Julie Martin and Travis Zimmerman (I have no idea). Ronnie Martin also provides some synthes I hear. Anyway, since Jason does all the guitars (and writes the lyrics too I think), it sounds like Starflyer, only more poppy, due to Julie's vocals. I'm going to just say right now, that I enjoy it very much. Girl singer or not. She actually goes really well with Jason's guitars. Good stuff.

I was thinking the other day (Yes, it's that time of year), and it occured to me I haven't talked about video games lately (Almost a whole month!), so now, I will.

I grabbed this one a few weeks back when it was on sale. To sum things up, it's twice as good as the original. It's got twice the mini-games, and the old ones are even better than before! Some people don't seem to enjoy the single player mode, (which by the way has one of the most bizzare stories ever) but I like it way better than the first game.

No One Lives Forever 2 Demo
I've only played the demo of this one, but I think it's probably the best single player first person shooter since System Shock 2. It's got a really good AI system where enemies act more like real people would, say for instance someone spots you, but you run away and take a left at a fork in the road. The enemy didn't see whether you took a left or right, so instead of magically know where you are, they stop at the fork and get confused. There are a bunch of fun weapons, with everything to swords, to guns, to exploding cats! Not only is this game fun, it's got a great sense of humor too! Alot of times if guards run into eachother in the hall, they'll start talking, and hilarity ensues. Anyway, this game is fun, and I'd like to buy it.

As I was eating I was also watching The Screen Savers on TechTv. I enjoy that show. It almost doesn't seem like a show, because the people on it are having fun, and sometimes things don't go as planned, and hilarity ensues. It's Good.
Phantasy Star Online
This one came out a couple weeks ago, and I wasn't too terribly excited about at first. Don't ask me why, I just wasn't. Then I played it at Tan-Tan's. The next day I played it again. For eight hours. The day after that, I bought it. I enjoy it immensly, there's nothing better than building up characters and getting stuffs.
Rating - Absurdly addicting fun
